EMM2.0 piloted face-to-face training in Dar es Salaam
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) spearheaded the face-to-face training component of the Essentials of Migration Management (EMM2.0) in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania on 27-28 November 2019.
Mr. Nelson Goncalves, African Capacity Building Centre (ACBC) senior trainer facilitated the training, bringing together diverse mid-level government officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Prime Minister Office, Ministry of Finance, President's Office and Chairman of Revolutionary Council, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.
The two-day training aimed to equip government officials with the foundations of migration management as well as to serve as a venue for them to network, discuss issues, share good practices and lessons learned. Likewise, the training intended to underscore the interdependency of work across participating agencies and ministries.
The pilot training covered EMM2.0's first batch of modules namely: The Global Context of Migration; International Migration Law; Human Rights of Migrants: An Overview; Gender and Migration; Developing Migration Policy; Data, Research and Analysis for Policymaking; Policy Formulation, Consultations and Adoption; Policy Implementation and Evaluation; and, Migration and Development.
The face-to-face training specifically strived to highlight migration as a driving factor for development in the United Republic of Tanzania. Moreover, this pilot training was designed to test the efficacy of the modules as well as to solicit feedback from the participants regarding the training methodology.
A second pilot training was also held in Manila, the Philippines on 4-5 March 2020. The two pilot trainings were funded by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
