Course Description

Evidence-based and effective migration policies are necessary in our mobility-rich world. Without them, social and economic opportunities are lost. What is needed to develop migration policies that are strategic, fit-for-purpose, sustainable and coherent with other policy sectors? Which actors influence the policymaking process? What factors frame it? What are the current trends in the thinking about migration policy?

Find answers to these questions and more in the EMM2.0 e-course on the Migration management and the policy cycle I: Developing migration policy. This self-paced e-learning module outlines key elements of policymaking on migration. It explores, for instance, the definition of policy; the drivers triggering the development of migration policy and the factors influencing it; the relationship between migration policy, governance and management; and national migration strategy development. It also introduces the policy cycle and the steps that ensure the development and implementation of effective policies.

This module provides an introduction to the module “Migration management and the policy cycle II: The seven stages of the policy cycle”. Both modules should be taken together.
