EMM2.0 held a training-of-trainers in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia

Funded by the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) of the Swiss Confederation, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) held a training-of-trainers (ToT) on the Essentials of Migration Management (EMM2.0) in Bishoftu, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, from 25-27 August 2021.

The session was attended by 12 staff (4 female, 8 male) from IOM office in Addis Ababa. The aim was to create a sustainable mechanism for the transfer of knowledge and skills by establishing a skilled pool of trainers who will be able to implement EMM2.0 training sessions at the country and regional levels. In doing so, the ToT strove to contribute to strengthened capacities to manage migration effectively.

The ToT curriculum was developed with an interactive methodology based on adult learning principles. The purpose was to provide future trainers not only with practical skills to facilitate training sessions, but also with the technical knowledge on various aspects of migration management.

At the end of the training, ToT participants were able to recognize learning styles, work with different audience types to establish appropriate objectives, and evaluate training needs.

Some of the modules that comprised the training included the Global context of international migration; International migration law and human rights of migrants; Migration management and the policy cycle; Gender and migration; Migration and development; and, Trafficking in persons.

Results of the post-training questionnaire showed that all participants agreed or strongly agreed that their increased knowledge, as a result of the workshop, will increase their facilitation skills, and that the workshop content was well-matched with their job-related needs.
