Course Description

Effective border management can help States meet their responsibilities to admit those whose arrival is in accordance with the law, safeguard national security, while protecting the rights of migrants while reducing their potential vulnerabilities. How can we achieve good border management? What are the key policy considerations? What is an integrated border management system and what makes it effective?  

Find answers to these questions and more in EMM2.0 e-course on Regulating migration: Border management. This self-paced e-learning module outlines activities that take place at points of entry and border control/crossing points, such as document checking and verification, as well as immigration enforcement. It also explores migration data collection, intelligence gathering and how they can all contribute to the development of risk analyses.  

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this e-course, participants will be able to: 

  • Recognize challenges to border management at different types of points of entry. 

  • Explain policy considerations related to systems for integrated border management.  

  • Describe activities carried out at borders, including document verification, data collection and enforcement.
