As part of the Western Hemisphere Program’s activities to assist migration management capacity development in Latin America and the Caribbean, IOM Guyana and the Regional Coordination Office for the Caribbean implemented held two hybrid online/in-person EMM2.0 training sessions with government officials in Grenada and the Co-operative Republic of Guyana. The training was funded by the United States Department of State Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration.
A three-day training was held in St. George’s, Grenada, where ten participants from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Planning, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Legal Affairs, NADMA and the Immigration Department gathered on 3-5 August 2021.
On 14-15, 21-22, and 28-29 June and 05-06 and 12-13 July 2021, a ten-day training was also held in Georgetown, Guyana.
The training sessions aimed to assist the countries in their efforts to develop evidence-based migration management strategies. They provided an opportunity to strengthen dialogue among ministries and departments and exchange good practices in migration management.
Given the diverse list of participants, this training highlighted the importance of the whole-of-government approach and the interlinkages between different areas of migration management.
In Guyana, results of a post-training questionnaire showed that all participants strongly agreed or agreed that the workshop content was well matched with their job-related needs, and that their increased knowledge, as a result of the workshop, will help improve their work performance.
