This two-day pilot training introduces key aspects of migration management while highlighting the importance of a whole-of-government approach in addressing migration policy challenges.
From this foundation, the training brings together government officials involved in different areas of migration management, offering an opportunity for networking and recognizing interdependencies of their work. The training also articulates the relevance of international governance frameworks, including the Global Compact for Migration and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, on the day-to-day work of government officials in the United Republic of Tanzania.
Mid-level government officials with migration-related policy functions and more than 7 years of experience working as head/deputy head of a unit or division within the Ministry of Home Affairs, Prime Minister Office, Ministry of Finance, President's Office and Chairman of Revolutionary Council, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.
The expected outcomes of the pilot training are for participants to:
- Gain a common and comprehensive grasp of migration governance, migration management and the interlinkages between different areas of migration
- Become aware of how to use data and research for evidence-based policymaking in migration
- Feel empowered to take action to improve their own migration policies
- Recognize migration as both a benefit and a challenge that can be managed
- Value and promote collaboration within government (inter-ministry, agency, and so on), with other governments (at regional and global levels) and beyond government (private sector, civil society, international organizations and others)
